René Portocarrero (Cuban, 1912-1985) ink and watercolor on paper, portrait of a woman in the style of an Aztec codex. Signed and dated 1978 in the lower left corner. Portocarrero studied at "San Alejandro" briefly before leaving to learn by his means. He became well known during the "Vanguardia" era of Cuban modern art as a painter, sculptor, ceramicist, scenic designer, and book illustrator, having contemporaries like Amelia Peláez.
