Framed 1928 Marcella Rodange Comes (American, 1905-2000) oil on board painting titled "Rome," signed in the bottom left corner by artist. Painting is surrounded by a canvas border with a name plate at the bottom. The gold-tone frame has a decorative design. Frame size: 19.75 x 16". Viewable size: 14.75 x 11".
Marcella Rodange Comes (later Winslow) studied at the Carnegie Institute and later became the official portrait painter of the U.S. Poet Laureate. In 1993, the National Gallery held an exhibition titled "Brushes with the Literary: Portraits by Washington Artist Marcella Comes Winslow." She painted portraits of poets and authors including Ezra Pound, Eudora Welty, Robert Penn Warren and others.
