Civil War letter sent by then 2nd lieutenant John Kelt to his father datelined at his encampment at Fredericksburg December 16th. He writes, "Dear Father, I write you once more to let you know that I am well and again unhurt after another hard fought battle in which I had the honor of commanding a company as my Cap. was sick... out of 12 privates that I took into the fight I lost 6 and 2 corporals..." He continues to commend his company as the best in the Brigade and that he has not received his clothes as of yet. The letter is cut short as he says "I cannot give you much of an account of the Battle... you get the papers and they give all the news... I have no time to write more at present... love to all..." signed John Kelt.
