Lot of framed items related to Sergeant Adam Worth (also spelled Wirth) of Company L, 2nd New York Volunteer Heavy Artillery Regiment. Frame size 21.25 x 17.25". Includes:

  • Handwritten resolution dated October 14, 1862 expressing "heartfelt sympathy and condolence" at the death of Sergeant Worth. The resolution is signed by Dr. William Stamford, 1st Sergeant Moses E. Brush, Quartermaster-Sergeant Charles H. Miller, Sergeant John Kauffman, Sergeant Fritz Dehne, Captain Jacob Roemer, Sergeant Thomas Heasley, Sergeant John James Johnston, and Sergeant William Rierson.
  • Grand Army of the Republic membership badge.
  • Woman's Relief Corps membership badge.
  • Newspaper clipping about the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Adam Wirth Post, No. 451 of College Point, NY. The clipping quotes the resolution, and also includes the history of the post, a list of post members and a brief biography of Worth.

Adam Worth was born in 1841 in New York City, NY. He enlisted on September 9, 1861 at Flushing, NY, and he was mustered as a private on October 1. He was promoted to sergeant on May 27, 1862. He died on September 25, 1862 at Seminary Hospital in Georgetown, D.C. from wounds received during the Second Battle of Bull Run (also known as the Battle of Second Manassas) on August 30, 1862. He is buried at the US Soldiers' and Airmen's Home National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. On February 21, 1884, the GAR Adam Wirth Post was organized in College Point, NY in the soldier's honor. The post was dissolved in 1928 when its last member died.



Condition: Good, the resolution and newspaper clipping are laminated. Some stains to badge ribbons.
