19th century era Walnut partners desk with a large, slanted top, and two drawers. Includes key for the drawers.
Dimensions: 54 x 29.5 x 38".
Provenance: It is believed the desk was used in the South Carolina House or Senate from after William Tecumseh Sherman burned the Capitol in 1865, until the end of Reconstruction. At that time, new furniture was ordered and the desks were sent to county courthouses. This desk is believed to have ended up in York County, South Carolina, and was eventually given to a long-term senator from York. The consignor purchased the desk in 1980 from the senator's widow.
